Show of Hands - Royal Albert Hall

For a second time we provided sound and lighting for Show of Hands at the Royal Albert Hall.

On FOH and monitor duties were Midas Pro2 and Pro2C digital consoles (Midas Pro2C new to hire stock). We utilised the flown ‘house’ system (Sound by Design), and supplied all ancillary equipment, as well as complete systems for two production rehearsals / performances in Taunton and London.

2 days of WYSIWYG lighting visualisation ensured that the concept from the planning and design process could be effectively realised in a short period in the venue.

Salisbury International Festival

For the second year we provided sound for the major concerts as part of the Salisbury International Festival, culminating in the closing event at Salisbury Cathedral. Performances in June included the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Sierra Maestra and The Mechanicians.

As part of this years Castle Park Festival events Eddi Reader (formerly Fairground Attraction) appeared at Leicester Cathedral. We were once again approached by Leicester City Council to provide sound reinforcement for the event and meet an exacting artist specification.

Stourhead Picnic and Fireworks

Stourhead in Wiltshire is the flagship property for the National Trust. The joys and challenges of working in an 18th Century landscape garden make this event particularly special for all those involved. Meticulous care and planning are essential at every stage, the transport of equipment onto the estate (mainly by hand), the mains distribution and the attention to the preservation of the fabric of the gardens.

For the 2nd year we supplied architectural lighting for trees and temples around the lake, as well as the iconic turf bridge. This year we also supplied access and emergency lighting for pathways and exits, as well as a small sound system for announcements and background music.

This is the 3rd year we have supplied sound and lighting for Galhampton Festival, and through dialogue and collaboration it continues to go from strength to strength. This year bands included The Beat and Hugh Cornwell.

The Imagined Village

This was a rehearsal period followed by two shows, working up to a summer headlining some of the most prestigious festivals in the UK. The high channel count and complex monitoring requirements make it essential that we tour a powerful monitor desk with recallable snapshots - from the first note of every festival performance to the last, every member of the band must be able to hear both themselves and everyone else onstage so they can interact effectively and musically.

As well as the sound reinforcement for these shows we will be supplying much of the stage equipment for the festival shows, including hardwired and wireless in ear monitoring and a Digico SD8 on monitors.

Cara Dillon at the Yeovil Octogon

We were approached by Cara’s front of house engineer to supply a d&b audiotechnik Q series system, with 6 d&b MAX 12 wedges driven by a Yamaha M7CL digital desk. Cara uses a Neumann KMS105 condensor vocal microphone, which is a beautiful pairing with d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers - providing absolute transparency and detail.

Deva Primal & Mitten - Wells Cathedral

Deva Primal perform a combination of mantras and ragas juxtaposed with contemporary songs. The quality and even coverage of distributed d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers was of utmost importance for the enjoyment of the sell out crowd.

Deep Blue Sound - Plymouth Volksfest

During the long Bank Holiday weekend the normally peaceful acres of Newnham Park were given over to an invasion of Volkswagen-tinged mayhem as the 2009 Plymouth Volksfest arrived.

Thousands of people and countless VWs attended the three-day event with headline acts including Dreadzone, Hazel O’Connor and the Stereo MC’s.

Under the expert guidance of live sound tutor and festival veteran Jim Parsons, a team of 25 Deep Blue Sound students provided technical support and crew for the many acts playing on the main stage, an arrangement that is extremely unusual when working with artists of this calibre, in front of live audiences of up to 10,000.

We worked from an original specification by dBs Tutor (and renowned FOH Engineer ) Simon Honywill and supplied a complete d&b audiotechnik solution, including Q1 line arrays, Q7 front fill, d&b Q-SUB and B-SUB subwoofers, MAX12 monitors, MAX & C7 SUB sidefill and C690 flown delays.

WaterAid at Exeter Cathedral

This concert was the public swansong of the retiring Director of Music, Dr Simon Foxall. This was the eighth annual concert in aid of the charity and its proceeds make a significant contribution to WaterAid's work. The programme of orchestral and choral music (both accompanied and ‘A capella’) was transparently and unobtrusively reinforced using a combination of DPA and Schoeps microphones through distributed d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers.

‘Chris Puxley's company has supplied sound systems for our annual jazz concert for many years. The company is completely reliable and does expert work. We have recently entrusted him with more demanding projects, including providing subtle amplification for a Mozart opera and a Cathedral concert. His contribution to these events was simply remarkable. He completely understands the requirements of a wide range of musical styles and provides a totally professional service. The Imagined Village - Lush Video Shoot

We provided d&b monitoring and multitrack playback from a Macbook Pro and Logic Studio for a video shoot in this fabulous venue in Teddington.

Producer and musician Simon Emmerson has also booked us to provide onstage equipment, in-ear monitoring, FOH and monitor engineers for a series of performances with the Imagined Village (www.imaginedvillage.com) this summer.
